Chapter 8 - The Shadow of the Past

While peace seemed to have settled over the Moretti estate, the underworld did not sleep for long. News of Valentina's exile and the miraculous survival of Rocco's true heir sent shockwaves through rival syndicates across Europe. Some factions saw the internal turmoil as an opportunity; others saw it as proof of Rocco Moretti's unbreakable grip on his empire.
In a dimly lit penthouse in downtown Milan, a group of shadowy figures gathered around a mahogany table. Marco Vane, a ruthless syndicate boss who had long sought to encroach upon Moretti territory, swirled a glass of expensive scotch.
"Rocco thinks he has secured his legacy by exiling Valentina and finding the boy," Vane sneered, his eyes gleaming with malice. "He believes the storm has passed."
"His security is tighter than ever," one of his lieutenants warned. "The estate is a fortress. Between his elite guard and the new domestic structure, getting inside is nearly impossible."
"We don't need to get inside the estate," Vane smiled coldly. "We just need to strike when he steps outside. Rocco always attends the annual international shipping summit in Geneva next month, completely unaccompanied by his main guard detail inside the conference hall. That is where we cut off the head of the Moretti family."
Little did Vane know, Rocco’s intelligence network—bolstered by loyalists and refined through years of strategic paranoia—was already listening to every word spoken in that penthouse through a planted surveillance device.
Back in his study, Rocco listened to the audio feed transmitted directly to his secure terminal. He listened calmly, taking a slow sip of his espresso, his expression devoid of fear or panic. Vane was walking straight into a trap of his own making.

Marcus stepped into the room, his face serious. "Boss, the intelligence unit intercepted Vane's communications. He's planning an ambush at the Geneva summit next month."
"Let him plan," Rocco said coldly, setting his cup down. "Prepare our tactical teams. We will fly to Geneva a week early. It's time to settle all accounts once and for all, so my son grows up in a world free of jackals."
