Chapter 9 - The Grand Restoration

News of Alessandro Moretti’s upcoming marriage to Clara Bennett sent shockwaves through Italian high society and the underworld alike. Some whispers of criticism initially circulated about a mob king marrying a former housekeeper, but those whispers were crushed overnight by Alessandro’s zero-tolerance stance. To respect Clara was to respect the Don.

Furthermore, Alessandro hosted a public memorial honoring David Bennett, officially recognizing him as a hero who had defended the estate's integrity. David was laid to rest in a beautiful memorial park overlooking the sea, giving Emma and me the closure we had been denied for three long, painful years.

Preparations for the wedding were unlike anything Milan had ever seen, but Alessandro ensured it remained intimate, elegant, and focused on family rather than syndicate politics.

On the morning of the wedding, six months after the incident with the blue rabbit, Villa Moretti was flooded with sunlight. The estate was decorated with white roses, warm silk ribbons, and faint music playing from the courtyard.

In the bride's dressing room, I stood before a full-length mirror wearing a stunning, simple silk lace gown that flowed around me like water. My hair was styled in soft waves, and for the first time in years, the tired shadows beneath my eyes were completely gone, replaced by a radiant, healthy glow.

A knock came at the door, and Marco stepped in, wearing a sharp black tuxedo with a crisp white boutonniere.

"You look breathtaking, Clara," Marco said, a warm, genuine smile on his battle-scarred face.

"Thank you, Marco," I said, stepping forward to adjust his lapel. "Thank you for taking care of us."

"It's my honor," Marco replied. He looked down at Emma, who was bouncing around the room in a tiny white flower-girl dress, clutching her beloved blue rabbit, which now wore a little black bow tie around its neck.

"Are you ready, little boss?" Marco asked Emma with a chuckle.

"I'm ready!" Emma beamed. "I get to throw flower petals on the floor and nobody is gonna get mad!"

I laughed, taking my daughter’s small hand. The dread that had defined my life for so long was completely gone, replaced by a profound sense of peace.

As the heavy oak doors of the grand chapel on the estate opened, the gentle strains of a string quartet filled the air. The hall was filled with friends, allies, and respected figures who bowed their heads in genuine warm respect as I walked down the aisle.

At the altar stood Alessandro.

He looked impossibly handsome in his tailored black tuxedo. As his eyes met mine, his entire face softened, filled with a deep, unshakeable devotion that brought tears of joy to my eyes.

When I reached him, he took my hand, his grip warm and steady.

"You are beautiful," he whispered softly, his voice trembling slightly with emotion.

"And you look very handsome, Mr. Sad Man," Emma whispered loud enough for the entire chapel to hear.

A light, warm laughter rippled through the guests. Alessandro smiled warmly, kneeling down to kiss Emma's cheek before standing back up to look into my eyes.

We exchanged our vows—promises made not out of duty, but out of deep, profound love forged through fire, trial, and truth. When the priest pronounced us husband and wife, Alessandro pulled me close, his arms wrapping tightly around my waist, and kissed me with a passion that made the rest of the world vanish entirely.

The chapel erupted into joyful applause.
