Chapter 10 - The King’s Family

Three years later.
The summer sun shone brightly over the lush, sprawling estate of Villa Moretti. The dark, cold atmosphere that had once defined the mafia king's residence had been completely replaced by warmth, life, and vibrant color.
In the vast green gardens, a large wooden playground stood near the fountain, complete with swings and a slide.
Alessandro sat on a comfortable wooden bench near the garden path, dressed casually in a linen shirt with his sleeves rolled up, working on a tablet. But his eyes rarely stayed on the screen for long. They kept drifting to the grass nearby.
Six-year-old Emma, wearing a bright yellow sundress, was running across the lawn, teaching a golden retriever puppy how to fetch a tennis ball.
"Faster, Buster! Come on!" she giggled, her laughter ringing through the afternoon air.
Beside Alessandro on the bench sat a small woven basket, inside of which lay a healthy, chubby nine-month-old baby boy with dark hair and bright blue eyes—our son, Leo.
I walked out of the conservatory carrying a tray of fresh lemonade and fruit, stepping onto the soft grass toward them.
"Is the future Don sleeping?" I asked with a smile, placing the tray on the low garden table.
Alessandro looked up, his dark eyes instantly lighting up with the warmth he saved only for us. He stood up, wrapping his arm around my waist and pulling me close for a soft, loving kiss.
"He just fell asleep," Alessandro whispered, looking down at our sleeping son with endless affection. "He spent an hour trying to grab my finger."
"He takes after his father—very determined," I teased, leaning my head against his shoulder.
Alessandro laughed softly, wrapping his arms around me from behind, resting his chin on my head as we watched Emma play in the sunshine.
Marco walked up the stone path, holding a folder, but stopped a few paces away when he saw our family moment. He smiled, holding up a finger to show it wasn't urgent.
"The port reports are in, Don Alessandro," Marco said softly. "Everything is quiet. Shipping is running smoothly, and the council meeting for next week is confirmed."
"Thank you, Marco," Alessandro replied smoothly. "Tell them I will only attend if the meeting finishes before five. I promised Emma I would attend her ballet recital."
Marco chuckled, nodding respectfully. "Understood, boss." He looked at Emma, waving warmly before heading back toward the main house.
Emma ran over to us, out of breath, her cheeks rosy from the sun. She dropped onto the grass beside the bench and picked up her blue wool rabbit—slightly more faded now, but still perfectly intact and proudly wearing its little ribbon.
"Mommy, look! Buster learned how to sit!" she announced proudly.
"That's amazing, sweetie," I said, sitting beside her and stroking her hair.
Emma looked up at Alessandro, leaning her head against his leg. "Daddy, can Mr. Bunny sleep in the big chair today?"
Alessandro smiled, reaching down to gently pick up both Emma and her worn blue rabbit, lifting her easily into his arms.
"Mr. Bunny can sleep anywhere he wants in this house, sweetheart," Alessandro said warmly, looking at Emma, then turning his deep, loving gaze to me. "After all, he is the one who brought us all together."
I reached out, holding Alessandro's hand as we stood together in the warm golden sunlight of our home.

I had once been a heartbroken widow, striking marble floors just to survive, slapped and degraded by those who thought power was measured in money. But standing here, surrounded by absolute protection, peace, and unconditional love, I knew the truth.
True power was not built on fear. It was built on the unbreakable promises of a family that had survived the dark, and stepped together into the light.
