Chapter 5 - The Siege of Villa Moretti

The peaceful silence of the estate was shattered minutes later by the distant thrum of heavy engines and the sharp crack of automatic gunfire at the front gates. The Black Anchor, realizing Vivian had failed to secure the key discreetly, launched a full assault on Villa Moretti.

Alarms blared through the halls, red emergency lights flashing along the stone corridors.

"Clara! Take Emma into the safe room behind the bookcase!" Alessandro ordered, pulled a high-caliber handgun from his desk drawer and checking the magazine.

"Alessandro, no! Come with us!" I cried out, holding a frightened, crying Emma in my arms.

"I have to lead my men," he said, turning to look at me. His intense dark eyes held no fear, only an absolute resolve. "If they breach the estate, they will burn everything to get that key. I have to end this tonight."

He reached out, his large hand gently cupping my cheek—the same cheek Vivian had struck days ago. His thumb brushed softly over my skin. "Stay inside the safe room. Do not open it for anyone except me or Marco."

Before I could say another word, he turned and sprinted out into the dark hallway, followed by a squad of heavily armed guards.

Marco pushed me toward the hidden door in the bookshelf. "In here, Mrs. Bennett! Fast!"

I carried Emma into the small, reinforced concrete room hidden behind the study walls. The heavy steel door sealed shut with a thud, cutting off most of the terrifying sound of gunfire from outside.

Inside, it was quiet, lit by soft overhead emergency lights. There were comfortable chairs, supplies, and CCTV monitors showing various angles of the estate.

Emma buried her face in my neck, sobbing softly. "Mommy... I'm scared. Where is Mr. Sad Man?"

"He's protecting us, baby," I whispered, holding her as tightly as I could, tears spilling down my own cheeks. "He's fighting for us."

I watched the CCTV monitors with a pounding heart. Outside, under the pouring rain and flashing lightning, a fierce battle was waging. Black SUV vehicles had rammed through the iron gates. Masked mercenaries armed with automatic rifles were rushing the courtyard.

But Alessandro's men were prepared.

On the center monitor, I saw Alessandro. He moved with incredible tactical precision, directing his men, taking down enemy combatants with lethal efficiency. He wasn't just a boss who sat behind a desk; he was a warrior defending his home.

Suddenly, my eyes caught a horrific sight on the third screen. A group of three mercenaries had managed to flank the main force, sneaking through the garden entrance and making their way up the service stairs—heading directly toward the study where we were hidden!

They knew where the master suite was. They were coming for the key.

My breath hitched. I watched as the three armed men kicked open the door to the study on the monitor. They began tearing the room apart, smashing desks, pulling down curtains, searching for the safe room entrance.

One of them approached the very bookshelf that concealed us. He began pulling on books, searching for the release mechanism.

Emma clutched her blue rabbit tight against her chest. I pressed my hand over her mouth, praying she wouldn't make a sound. My heart hammered like a trapped bird against my ribs.

The mercenary on the screen raised the butt of his rifle, preparing to smash the concealed wall panels.
