Chapter 8 - The Fall of the Pretender

Victoria fell entirely to her floor, clutching at the hem of Dante's tailored suit pants in a pathetic display of begging.

"Please, Dante! Don't do this! Think of our engagement—think of what people will say—"

"Our engagement was a business arrangement based on a foundation of loyalty and trust—both of which you shattered the moment you revealed your true face," Dante said coldly, gently pulling his suit from her desperate grip as if brushing away dirt.

He raised his hand slightly.

From the shadows of the arched hallways, two large, heavily armed security operatives stepped forward, their faces stone-cold, clad in tactical gear. They didn't speak. They simply flanked Victoria on either side, their hands gripping her arms with iron strength.

"Take her out of my sight," Dante commanded, his voice devoid of any remaining warmth. "Strip her of every asset, every designer label, every token of this estate. Put her on a non-commercial cargo flight out of the country before midnight. If she ever attempts to return, or breathes a single word of what she saw inside these walls, ensure she disappears permanently."

"No! NO! Dante, please!" Victoria screamed, her voice echoing frantically against the high vaulted ceilings as the operatives hoisted her off the floor and dragged her toward the rear exit, her manicured nails scratching helplessly against the polished marble.

The heavy service doors slammed shut behind them, cutting off her desperate cries in an instant.

The foyer fell into a profound, heavy silence.

Up on the landing, Emma and Chloe stood frozen, their eyes wide with disbelief and wonder. They had spent days living in terror of that woman, and in a matter of minutes, their father had swept her away like dust in the wind.

Grace stood behind them, her chest heaving slightly as the adrenaline finally began to fade. She looked down at Dante, her expression a mix of profound relief and quiet respect.

Dante turned slowly away from the door, his dark eyes lifting up toward the staircase. The cold, terrifying aura of the mafia boss melted away instantly, replaced by the deep, fierce warmth of a father looking at his entire world.

He walked toward the stairs, taking each step deliberately until he stood on the landing right in front of his daughters and Grace.
