Chapter 10 - Where the Light Lands

Three years later.

The sun was setting over the vast lawns of the Blackwood estate, turning the sky into a brilliant canvas of orange, pink, and deep gold.

On the wide green lawn, four-year-old Ethan was chasing a golden retriever puppy, his laughter echoing across the open grass. Behind him, walking carefully on two tiny, plump legs, was two-year-old Clara—Victor and Lily’s daughter—wearing a yellow sun hat, giggling as she tried to keep up with her older brother.

"Ethan, watch your sister!" Lily called out from the shaded veranda, holding a pitcher of fresh lemonade.

"I got her, Mommy!" Ethan shouted back proudly, stopping to hold Clara’s hand as they walked together toward the dog.

Victor stepped out from the French doors behind Lily, wearing a dark blue sweater and dark trousers. He looked younger now, the harsh lines of stress and dark authority on his face softened by time, peace, and love.

He wrapped his arms around Lily’s waist from behind, pulling her back against his chest as they watched their children play on the grass.

"They're growing up so fast," Lily murmured, resting her head back against his shoulder.

"Because they are safe," Victor replied softly, kissing her cheek. "Because they live in a house full of love."

Lily turned in his arms, resting her hands against his chest. She looked out over the estate—the iron gates stood open to the sunlight, the shadows were gone, and the dark past was merely a quiet memory that no longer held any power over them.

She had once been a girl running through the night with blood on her clothes and terror in her heart, begging a cruel world for a chance to survive. Now, she was a mother, a wife, a protector of hundreds of women, and the heart of a home built on ironclad love.

"What are you thinking?" Victor asked gently, tracing the line of her jaw with his finger.

Lily smiled, her eyes shining with quiet, absolute contentment.

"I was thinking," Lily whispered, leaning up to press her lips to his, "that the monster is gone, the light is here, and we are finally home."

Victor smiled back, holding her tight against him as the warm evening breeze carried the sound of their children’s laughter across the lawn, beneath a clear, endless sky.
