Chapter 9 - The Promise on the Cliff

Two years later.

The Rossi estate had become a true home. The stone angels in the garden were replaced with vibrant rose beds and play sets.

Little Leo, now a healthy, energetic two-year-old toddler with a mop of dark curls and bright, inquisitive eyes, came running across the lush green lawn, laughing hysterically as he was chased by a large, gentle golden retriever.

"Slow down, Leo!" Hunter called out with a warm, maternal smile.

She was sitting on a teak bench near the edge of the cliff, dressed in an elegant white summer dress. Her skin was radiant, the dark shadows of her past entirely replaced by peace and joy.

Lorenzo walked out from the terrace, holding two glasses of lemonade. He had shed his dark three-piece suits for comfortable, light clothing. The hard, deadly edge in his eyes had softened into a profound, calm happiness.

He handed a glass to Hunter and sat beside her, wrapping a strong arm around her waist and pulling her close.

"Look at him," Lorenzo murmured, watching Leo tumble safely onto the grass, giggling as the dog licked his face. "Two years ago, I stood in that nursery expecting to watch him die. I was ready to end my own life as soon as he was gone."

Hunter turned her head, placing a gentle kiss on Lorenzo's cheek. "And now?"

"And now, I wake up every morning thanking God for sending me an angel in a maid's uniform," Lorenzo said, reaching into his pocket and pulling out a small, velvet box.

Hunter held her breath.

Lorenzo slid down onto one knee in front of her, opening the box to reveal a breathtaking ring—a rare, brilliant pink diamond surrounded by a halo of white stones.

"Hunter Higgins," Lorenzo said, his deep voice rich with emotion. "You gave my son a second chance at life. You gave me a reason to feel, to love, and to be a good man. You healed a home that was built on grief. Will you do me the honor of becoming my wife, my queen, and the mother of my children?"

Tears of pure joy welled in Hunter’s eyes. She didn't hesitate for a single second.

"Yes," she whispered, leaning down to throw her arms around his neck. "Yes, Lorenzo! A thousand times, yes!"

Lorenzo slipped the ring onto her finger and pulled her into a passionate kiss, while Leo came bounding over, throwing his tiny arms around both of their legs, joining in the warm embrace.
