Chapter 8 - A New Dawn

The attack on the Rossi estate was the final, violent gasp of Lorenzo’s enemies. In the days that followed, Lorenzo launched a ruthless, final campaign that completely dismantled any remaining opposition in the region. The city understood, once and for all, that Don Lorenzo Rossi was untouchable.
But inside the estate, a profound transformation took place.
The cold marble museum built on fear was dismantled. Lorenzo dismissed the legion of stern, silent guards inside the living areas, replacing the intimidating atmosphere with warmth, light, and life. The windows were opened to let the Atlantic breeze sweep through the grand halls, and for the first time in decades, music played through the house.
Hunter officially stepped down from her role as a maid, not to leave, but to take her place at Lorenzo's side. She formally adopted Leo, legally becoming his mother—a title she held in her heart from the very first night she fed him.
Six months after the attack, on a brilliant sunny morning overlooking the cliffs of Long Island, Lorenzo closed his legendary black leather ledger—the book that contained all his underground operations and debt lists.
He called his high-ranking lieutenants into his study.
"As of today," Lorenzo announced, his voice firm and absolute, "the Rossi family is transitioning entirely into legitimate enterprises. All shipping routes, real estate investments, and financial holdings will be clean. I am steping down from active street leadership."
The men murmured in shock. "Don Lorenzo... the power we hold—"

"The power I held almost cost me my son and the woman I love," Lorenzo interrupted, holding up a hand. "I built an empire out of revenge and blood. Now, I intend to build a legacy out of life. Anyone who wishes to remain with me will walk a clean path. Those who wish to stay in the shadows may take their share and leave peacefully. But the syndicate ends today."
Reverent silence fell over the room. Respecting their Don's unyielding resolve, every single lieutenant bowed his head in agreement.
