Chapter 10 - The Sound of Home

As the sun began to dip below the horizon, painting the sky in brilliant hues of orange, purple, and gold, the four of them gathered on the picnic blanket.
The sound of the crashing waves provided a rhythmic, soothing backdrop.
Ellie reached into her bag and pulled out a framed sketch she had been working on all afternoon. She scooted over and placed it gently in Logan's lap.
Logan looked down at the drawing.
It was a beautiful pastel painting of four people standing hand-in-hand on the beach under a bright sun: a tall man in a security jacket, a beautiful woman, a little boy with a kite, and a little girl with a small, glowing golden ear.
At the bottom, in neat, careful cursive writing, Ellie had written:
To Logan—The man who helped me hear the world.
Logan felt a lump form in his throat. He looked up at Ellie, who was watching him with bright, hopeful eyes.
"I love it, Ellie," Logan said, his voice thick with emotion. "It’s the best gift I’ve ever received."
Ellie leaned forward and threw her arms around Logan’s neck, hugging him tight. "Love you, Logan," she whispered softly into his ear.

Logan wrapped his arms around her, holding her like his own daughter, catching Claire’s eyes over Ellie’s shoulder. Claire smiled, reaching over to place her hand over Logan’s. Their fingers entwined naturally, comfortably, as if they were always meant to fit together.
The silence that had once defined Ellie’s life was gone forever, replaced not just by the sound of music, bird songs, and ocean waves—but by the laughter of a real family, restored, protected, and complete.
