Chapter 10 - A House Restored

One year later, the scent of fresh cinnamon rolls filled our kitchen on a bright Sunday morning.
The wall where the plate of mashed potatoes had shattered a year ago was now painted a warm, bright yellow. Hanging over that exact spot was a framed family photograph from our Oregon trip—Daniel, Mason, and me, laughing together against a backdrop of pine trees and ocean waves.
Daniel came up behind me as I brewed coffee, wrapping his arms around my waist and resting his chin gently on my shoulder.
"What are you thinking about?" he asked softly.
"Just thinking about how bright this room feels now," I smiled, leaning back against his chest.
"It's bright because it's full of love," he whispered, kissing my cheek. "Real love."

Mason ran into the kitchen, holding his tablet, but this time he wasn't recording hidden conversations. He was showing us an animation he had drawn for a school art project—a story about a little superhero who saved a castle using the power of truth.
We sat down at the dining table together, passing the breakfast plates around. There was no cold silence, no polite venom disguised as advice, no quiet manipulation. There was only the warm, noisy, beautiful reality of a family that had survived the storm, grown stronger through the truth, and restored their home into a true sanctuary.
