Chapter 4 - The Specialist and the Turn of Hope

Three days after the incident at the hospital, Claire’s primary oncologist called an emergency meeting. Because of the disturbed IV infusion, they had to run comprehensive blood panels to ensure no dangerous air embolism or sudden chemical imbalance had damaged her vital organs.
The results brought the first true ray of sunlight into our lives. "Mrs. Miller," Dr. Hayes said, his expression one of cautious optimism. "The disruption actually prompted a complete re-evaluation of her treatment path. We consulted a specialist in pediatric immunology in Boston."
He turned his laptop around to show me a treatment protocol that hadn't been available locally. "This advanced immunotherapy has a significantly higher success rate for Claire’s specific condition. Because the trust fund remains entirely intact under your sole control, we can fund this treatment immediately."

I stared at the screen, tears of profound relief streaming down my face. Daniel had tried to declare Claire’s condition a "hopeless situation" to steal her money, but that exact money was now going to save her life.
The transfer of funds from my late mother's trust was executed the following morning with the help of a probate judge who fast-tracked the paperwork upon seeing the criminal charges against Daniel. My mother’s legacy was fulfilling its true purpose: protecting her granddaughter, not funding a traitor's new family.
