Chapter 8 - A New Dawn in the Delivery Room
The spring breeze carried the scent of blooming jasmine through the open windows of the private maternity suite at the city's premier medical center.
The contractions had started just before dawn—a fitting parallel to the morning that had changed my life forever, but this time, there was no fear, no darkness, and no cruelty. Only love, light, and anticipation.
Julian had been waiting in the private family lounge downstairs for six hours straight, refusing to leave his post despite the hospital director’s repeated insistence that he rest.
When the obstetrician finally stepped out of the delivery room into the hallway, Julian was on his feet instantly.
"How is she?" Julian demanded, his voice tight with anxiety.
The doctor broke into a wide, beaming smile. "Mother and baby are both completely healthy, Mr. Vance. Congratulations. You have a healthy, beautiful granddaughter."
Julian closed his eyes for a moment, letting out a breath of pure relief and joy. He walked into the delivery room, his steps heavy with emotion.
I was lying back against the hospital pillows, exhausted but radiant, holding a tiny bundle wrapped in a soft pink blanket against my chest. The baby was sleeping peacefully, her tiny chest rising and falling in perfect rhythm.
Julian walked slowly to the bedside, looking down at the infant with tears shimmering in his sharp grey eyes. He reached out a trembling finger, gently touching the baby’s tiny, perfect hand.
"Welcome to the world, little one," Julian whispered, his voice thick with emotion. "Your grandfather is here. And no one will ever, ever hurt you."

I looked up at him, a warm smile spreading across my face. "Do you want to hold her, Uncle?"
Julian carefully scooped the baby into his arms, supporting her head with the tenderness of a man holding the most precious treasure in the universe. For the first time in his life, the cold, ruthless titan of industry looked completely, perfectly at peace.
