Chapter 2 - The Sound of the Iron Sledgehammer

The front door did not just open; it exploded inward with a deafening crash, showering the foyer in splinters of expensive mahogany.

Helena shrieked, dropping her coffee cup onto the tiled floor where it shattered into a thousand tiny shards. Raul slowly pushed his chair back, his face instantly draining of its usual arrogant color. Victor froze, the heavy wooden cane still raised mid-air, trembling as a massive shadow stretched across the hallway.

A pair of polished black combat boots stepped over the broken threshold. Then another, and another.

Within seconds, a dozen men clad in pitch-black tactical gear and wearing the crest of the city's most feared private security and intelligence network flooded the house. They moved with terrifying, mechanical precision, securing every corner, every hallway, and every exit. Nora dropped her phone, the device clattering against the floor, its camera still blinking its red recording light.

And then, walking through the center of the armed escort, came the man Victor’s family had spent the last five years whispering about in sheer terror.

Julian Vance.

He did not look like a man who ran a multi-billion-dollar global empire. He looked like an executioner. His charcoal-grey three-piece suit was immaculate, completely unaffected by the chaos of the morning. His silver-streaked hair was neatly combed, and his cold, piercing grey eyes swept across the room with a chilling, predatory focus.

He didn't scream. He didn't rage. His voice, when it cut through the terrified silence of the kitchen, was quiet, smooth, and infinitely lethal.

"Victor," Julian said softly.

Victor dropped the cane. It clattered uselessly against the tile. His knees buckled slightly, and his lips parted in a silent, paralyzed gasp. "Mr... Mr. Vance. I... we didn't know—"

"I know you didn't," Julian interrupted, his voice dropping an octave as his eyes locked onto Victor.

Julian’s gaze shifted downward.

The moment his eyes landed on me—curled in a pool of blood, struggling to breathe against the kitchen cabinets—the temperature in the room plummeted below freezing. The casual, terrifying composure vanished, replaced instantly by an apocalyptic fury.

Julian didn't walk; he glided. In two strides, he was kneeling on the freezing tile beside me, completely ignoring the dust and the blood. His large, steady hands hovered over my body, trembling slightly not from fear, but from a rage that threatened to consume him whole.

"Elena," he murmured, his voice cracking with a tenderness he never showed the world. He gently brushed a blood-matted lock of hair from my forehead. "Look at me, sweetheart. I'm here."

"The... the baby," I whispered, tears finally breaking free, mixing with the dirt and blood on my face. "Julian... protect my baby."

Julian’s jaw tightened until the bone threatened to break through his skin. He looked up at one of the tactical officers standing behind him.

"Get the medical team inside. Now. If a single hair on this child's head is harmed, I want every brick of this estate reduced to powder before noon."

"Right away, sir!" the commander barked into his shoulder radio.

Julian carefully, effortlessly scooped me into his arms, lifting me as though I weighed nothing at all. As he stood up, he turned his cold, dead eyes toward Raul, Helena, Nora, and Victor.

They were statues of absolute terror.

"You touch a hair on my niece," Julian whispered, his voice echoing like a death sentence in the silent house, "and I will ensure that your family name is permanently erased from human history."
