Chapter 9 - Justice Delivered

The sentencing hearing took place on a bright morning in early spring.

The courtroom was packed with reporters, police officers, and victims of Vance’s previous fraudulent divorce schemes.

Judge Eleanor Vance took her seat on the bench and delivered a scathing judgment that echoed through the marble hall.

"Marcus Vance," the judge declared, her voice ringing with authority. "You abused your position as an officer of the court to orchestrate systematic destruction, extortion, and horrific cruelty against innocent families. For child abuse conspiracy, extortion, wire fraud, and perjury, I sentence you to forty-five years in state penitentiary without the possibility of parole for twenty-five years."

Vance slumped in his chair, his face entirely devoid of color as guards handcuffed him and led him away.

"Rachel Mercer," Judge Vance continued, turning her gaze to my ex-wife. "A mother's sacred duty is to protect her child. You betrayed that duty in the most monstrous way imaginable for greed and vanity. I sentence you to twenty years in state prison."

As Rachel was led away in tears, I felt no vengeance—only an overwhelming sense of profound peace and safety returning to my life.

Justice had been served. The nightmare was finally over.
