Chapter 4 - Behind the Silver Door

Armed with the new evidence from Unit 412, the police raided Vance’s law firm downtown. What they uncovered was a syndicate of systematic extortion targeting wealthy spouses across three counties. Vance had built an enterprise out of staged domestic violence cases, using dirty tactics, fake injuries, and intimidation to strip targeted parents of their rights and assets.

However, one major piece was still missing: the origin of the mysterious hole in our bedroom wall that Rachel had photographed to claim I was volatile.

I returned to my empty house late afternoon to gather Lily’s favorite clothes and stuffed animals. The house felt eerie and desolate.

I walked into the master bedroom. Sure enough, near the baseboard, there was a jagged hole punched into the drywall.

I knelt beside it and noticed something glinting in the exposed insulation. Using a pen, I pulled out a small electronic device. It was a high-powered frequency jammer, along with a hidden pinhole camera tucked into the wall fixture directly above the hole.

Rachel hadn't just punched a hole in the wall; she had installed hidden surveillance to monitor my movements and block my phone signals whenever I tried to call for help.

I pulled out my phone and dialed Detective Jenkins immediately.

"Detective, check the cloud servers associated with the pinhole camera in my master bedroom," I said. "They recorded the night they punched that hole."

Twenty minutes later, Jenkins called back with the raw video file.

The footage showed Vance himself punching the wall with a hammer while Rachel took photos on her phone. In the background, Lily could be heard sobbing in her bedroom, calling for me.

The trap had completely turned around. The hunters were now the hunted.
