With Rachel and Vance safely behind bars without bail, the forensic financial investigation went into overdrive.
Forensic accountants hired by my legal team discovered that Vance had been funneling money out of offshore accounts for over five years, using a network of corrupt notary publics and dirty private investigators.
More importantly, we discovered that Rachel had been secretly draining our family's savings account to fund Vance’s personal investments, foolishly believing his promises that they would flee together to Europe once I was ruined.
"She was a pawn in his game, but a willing one," my chief attorney, Clara Sterling, explained over lunch in her office. "Vance promised her half of your company's value, which he estimated at eight million dollars."
"And what about Lily?" I asked, my heart aching. "How is the legal custody process moving?"

Clara smiled warmly—the first true moment of comfort I had felt in weeks. "The court has granted you sole legal and physical custody, effective immediately. Rachel’s parental rights are in the process of being permanently terminated based on the severe child abuse charges."
I breathed a massive sigh of relief. The cloud of fear that had hovered over my daughter was finally beginning to dissipate.
