Chapter 6 - The Long Road to Humility
Daniel knew that words meant nothing; he needed to prove he had changed. He began taking total responsibility for his life. He stopped complaining about his job and worked with absolute dedication. When he received his first modest bonus, he didn't spend it on luxury items; he used it to pay off a portion of an old debt he owed to a local charity his mother loved.
Vanessa, however, refused to change. Seeing Daniel content with a "common" life disgusted her. She realized she could no longer use him for status. One evening, she packed her luxury bags—the few she had left—and confronted him.
"I'm leaving," she said coldly. "This life is a prison. I’m going back to my parents' estate in Europe. I'm taking Liam."
Daniel stood up, his posture no longer weak, but strong and grounded. "You can leave, Vanessa. But you are not taking my son away from a family that will teach him real values. If you try to take him, I will fight you with everything I have left."
Vanessa laughed bitterly. "With what money, Daniel?"
"With my own hands," Daniel replied calmly.

Realizing a custody battle in her broke state would be messy, and truthfully not wanting the burden of raising a child without staff, Vanessa sneered, dropped Liam's diaper bag, and walked out the door. She never looked back.
Daniel was alone with his son, but for the first time in years, his conscience was clean.
