Chapter 6 - The Trap is Sprung

The night of the scheduled raid arrived with an eerie, suffocating silence.

The Cavaliere estate looked dark, vulnerable, and completely abandoned. Most of the security staff had been placed on the outer perimeter, out of sight, acting on Marco's strategic orders. Inside the main house, only Marco, Nora, and Sandro remained in the central monitoring room.

At 2:00 AM, the iron gates were breached. Not by marked police cruisers, but by blacked-out tactical vans. Marsh wasn't bringing a legitimate police force; he had assembled a rogue crew of dirty cops and hired mercenaries, executing an unauthorized hit disguised as a tactical raid.

"They're bypassing the courtyard, heading straight for the rear entrances," Sandro reported, his fingers flying across the security monitors. "They're heavily armed."

"Nora, stay here with Sandro," Marco ordered, checking the magazine of his sleek, black pistol.

"No," Nora countered, pulling a service weapon Sandro had provided her from her waistband. "Marsh is mine. He killed Danny. He ruined my life. I'm not sitting in a basement while you fight my ghost."

Marco looked at her for a long, heavy moment. He saw the fierce determination in her eyes—the same fiery spirit that had drawn him to her when she was just a quiet maid cleaning his floors. He nodded once. "Stay behind me. We move together."

They moved through the darkened corridors of the mansion like shadows. The sound of shattered glass echoed from the kitchen—the dynamic entry had begun.

Nora’s heart raced, but her mind was crystal clear. She knew every corner of this house now, not just from her undercover training, but from living within its walls. As three mercenaries moved down the main hallway, Nora and Marco acted in perfect synchronization.

Marco dropped the first two with lethal, precision shots before they could even raise their weapons. The third swung his rifle toward Marco, but Nora anticipated the movement, firing a single round that struck the shooter's shoulder, sending him crashing to the floor, disarmed and groaning.

"Clear," Nora whispered, her voice steady.

They pushed forward toward the master study, where the primary vault was located. That was where Marsh would go first—to destroy the files that incriminated him.
