Chapter 8 - The Gala at the Plaza

The Grand Ballroom of the Plaza Hotel glittered under the glow of three thousand crystal chandeliers. Tuxedos and high fashion filled the sprawling hall as the city’s elite, philanthropists, federal officials, and legal pioneers gathered for the inaugural gala of the Caleb Cross Foundation.

At the center table near the stage, Damian Vance stood conversing with the District Attorney and the Chief of Federal Investigations. He wore a tailored midnight-blue tuxedo that accentuated his commanding presence, but his eyes kept drifting toward the entrance of the ballroom, waiting.

Then, the murmurs in the crowd shifted, and a hush fell over the room as Sienna entered.

She wore a breathtaking, floor-length gown of midnight silk that caught the light with every step, her chestnut hair styled in soft, cascading waves over her shoulders. The fragile, hunted look of the bartender from ten months ago was entirely gone; in its place stood a woman of immense grace, power, and radiant beauty. Every eye in the room turned toward her, captivated.

Damian excused himself from the group, crossing the polished marble floor with unhurried confidence until he reached her side. He stopped, his gaze sweeping over her with a look of absolute, unapologetic adoration.

"I take back what I said about the dress you vetoed," Damian murmured, his voice low and rich with amusement. "This one surpasses all expectations."

"You have terrible taste in fashion, Damian," Sienna teased smoothly, slipping her hand effortlessly into the crook of his arm. "Fortunately, your taste in partners makes up for it."

"My best investment by far," he whispered, pressing a warm kiss to her temple before leading her toward the center of the floor as the orchestra struck up a smooth, sweeping waltz.

As they moved into the dance, surrounded by the powerful leaders of a city they had successfully reclaimed from corruption, Sienna rested her head lightly against Damian's shoulder. The memories of the past—the rainy nights, the fear, the blood, the grief—no longer felt like open wounds. They were simply the scars that had brought her to this exact moment.

"Are you happy, Sienna?" Damian asked softly, his arm holding her close against him as they glided across the floor.

She looked up into his dark, unwavering eyes, seeing not the dangerous billionaire or the calculating chess player, but the man who had seen through her armor and chosen to stand by her in the dark.

"I've never been more certain of anything in my life," she answered, a radiant smile touching her lips.
