Chapter 3 - Shadows in the Blueprint

The private elevator opened directly into Damian Vance’s penthouse, a sprawling expanse of glass, steel, and minimalist art that overlooked the glittering skyline of the city. Floor-to-ceiling windows framed the Empire State Building, bathing the room in a cold, blue luminescence.

Nico entered behind them, carrying a thick, secure leather briefcase. He placed it on the sleek marble island of the kitchen before stepping back into the shadows of the hallway, leaving Damian and Sienna alone in the vast, silent room.

"Drink?" Damian offered, walking toward a low-lit wet bar.

"Water," Sienna replied, refusing to sit. She remained standing near the edge of the glass wall, looking out over the city she had spent ten months learning to navigate as a phantom.

Damian poured a glass of ice water and handed it to her. Their fingers brushed briefly; his skin was cool, steady, completely devoid of nervousness. He walked over to the leather briefcase, popped the brass latches, and pulled out a stack of financial portfolios, encrypted hard drives, and glossy surveillance photographs.

"Holloway thinks he's clever," Damian began, spreading the documents across the dark wood table. "He’s been funneling corporate espionage payouts, cartel kickbacks, and embezzlement funds through a shell company called Vanguard Holdings. But Vanguard is just a facade. The real conduit is a decentralized ledger operated by a Cayman Islands trust."

Sienna stepped closer, her eyes scanning the financial tracking sheets with the sharp, analytical precision of a top-tier law student. The months of mixing drinks had not dulled her mind; if anything, the enforced silence had sharpened her focus like a whetstone.

"This routing code," Sienna pointed to a string of alphanumeric digits on a transfer slip. "This isn't just an offshore account. It's tied to an algorithmic laundering protocol. You can't just freeze these assets with a standard court order. It requires a private encryption key held by someone inside Holloway’s inner circle."

Damian looked up, a flicker of genuine respect crossing his dark eyes. "Precisely. And that key is currently stored on a physical hardware token kept in Holloway's personal safe at his Hamptons estate. A safe protected by biometric scanners, armed guards, and a security system that costs more than most houses."

"Which is why you haven't taken it yet," Sienna said, looking up from the papers. "You don't just want to freeze his money, Damian. You want to ruin him publicly, legally, and permanently. You need someone who can get inside that house without setting off alarms. Someone who can blend into the background, just like I've been doing for ten months."

"I can get you past the perimeter," Damian said, closing the distance between them until he was standing just inches away. Close enough that she could smell the clean, sharp scent of his cologne mingled with the rain. "I can disable the cameras for a four-minute window. But once you're inside that study, you're on your own. If Holloway wakes up, if his guards catch you, I can't intervene without exposing my own involvement."

Sienna didn't step back. She tilted her chin up, meeting his intense gaze without flinching. "My brother didn't get a four-minute window, Damian. He didn't get a choice at all. I'll get that key."

"I know you will," Damian murmured softly, his hand reaching out to brush a stray lock of hair behind her ear—a gesture so unexpectedly tender it made her breath catch. "Because you're not doing it for money. And you're not doing it for revenge. You're doing it because it's the only way the world makes sense anymore."
