Chapter 10 - The Dawn of the Valente Empire

The Legitimacy of LoveThree years later, the transformation of the Valente family was complete. The shipping routes were now fully compliant with international trade laws; the construction companies were union-certified and transparent; the private security forces had been converted into a licensed international agency.

Elara had graduated at the top of her class from NYU Law, her degree presented to her while Lorenzo and an eight-year-old Leo cheered so loudly from the front row that the dean had to pause the ceremony.

"You saved my son, Elara," he said softly. "You saved my family. You saved me."

"We saved each other, Lorenzo," she said, smiling up at him. "Now come inside. Leo needs help with his history homework, and you're the only one who actually remembers the nineteenth century."

Lorenzo laughed, pulling her into a warm, lingering kiss as the sun set over the Hudson, casting a long, golden glow across the empire they had built together—an empire no longer protected by bullets and betrayals, but by law, love, and a waitress who knew how to look at the details
