Chapter 8 - The Rebirth of Home

The scandal shocked the global financial market, but under Victor’s swift and decisive leadership, Hale Enterprises rebounded stronger than ever within weeks. All embezzled funds were recovered, the corrupt board members who had aided Julian were ousted, and Victor publicly cleared Amelia’s name, praising her bravery on national television.

However, the most significant change didn't happen in the boardroom. It happened at the Hale estate.

The once cold, dark, and sterile mansion underwent a complete transformation. Victor fired the rigid, emotionless butler staff and hired warm, welcoming people who treated the house like a true home. The grand foyer, once quiet as a grave, was now filled with the sound of children laughing and toys scattered across the polished floor.

It was a bright Saturday morning in late spring.

Victor sat on the living room rug, wearing a plain t-shirt and jeans, building a massive cardboard castle with Evan. Nora was sitting on his shoulders, giggling uncontrollably as Victor made funny monster noises, gently bouncing her up and down.

Amelia walked into the room carrying a tray of fresh lemonade and homemade cookies. She stopped in the doorway, a soft, radiant smile gracing her lips as she watched the man who used to work eighty hours a week completely immerse himself in his children’s joy.

Victor looked up, catching her eye. He set Nora down gently on the carpet and stood up, walking over to Amelia.

He took the tray from her hands, set it on a side table, and slid his arms around her waist, pulling her flush against him.

“You’re staring,” he teased gently, a warm smile lighting up his handsome face.

“I’m just not used to seeing the terrifying Victor Hale playing cardboard dragons,” Amelia laughed softly, wrapping her arms around his neck.

“The terrifying Victor Hale retired three weeks ago,” he murmured, kissing the tip of her nose. “Now I’m just a dad. And… hopefully, something more to you.”

Amelia’s heart fluttered. Over the past month, their relationship had blossomed into something beautiful and deep. Victor took her out on romantic dates, brought her flowers every single week, and treated her not as an employee, but as his equal, his partner, and his true love.

“You’re already everything to me, Victor,” she whispered softly, resting her forehead against his.

Evan ran over, tugging on Victor’s jeans. “Dada! Dragon coming! Help!”

Victor laughed, picking Evan up in one arm and pulling Amelia close with the other. “Duty calls,” he grinned, kissing Amelia passionately on the lips while the kids giggled around them.
