Chapter 6 - The Unraveling Trap

For three days, the Monterey estate became a sanctuary of healing and uninhibited joy. For the first time since his children were born, Victor did not touch a corporate document or answer a business call unless it was from Marcus regarding Julian’s movements.
He spent his mornings on the floor playing with Evan and Nora, laughing as they piled stuffed animals on his head. He watched in awe as Amelia cooked breakfast, sliding his arms around her waist from behind and resting his chin on her shoulder, kissing her cheek while the coffee brewed. The cold, distant billionaire was gone, replaced by a man who had finally discovered what it truly meant to live.
However, the shadow of Julian’s betrayal still hung over them, waiting to be cleared.
It was Thursday evening. The children were fast asleep in their room. Victor and Amelia sat on the terrace sofa, wrapped in a plush blanket, watching the dark waves break against the moonlight.
“Tomorrow is the emergency board meeting,” Amelia said softly, resting her head against Victor’s chest, listening to the calm, steady rhythm of his heart. “Are you sure about this, Victor?”
Victor stroked her hair gently. “Julian thinks he’s walking into the greatest triumph of his life. He has invited major news networks to cover the announcement of his permanent appointment as CEO. He wants the world to see him usurp my throne.”
“What if he tries something desperate when he realizes you’re alive?” she asked, a flicker of worry in her eyes.
“He won't have the chance,” Victor replied, his eyes darkening with cold resolve. “Marcus has compiled every single fraudulent document, every offshore transaction, and every recorded thread of extortion Julian used against you. The district attorney has already signed the arrest warrants. Tomorrow isn't just a board meeting, Amelia. It’s a public execution of his ambitions.”
He turned her face gently toward his, kissing her soft lips. “And once it’s over, Julian will never be able to touch or threaten this family ever again.”
Meanwhile, back in the city, Julian Hale was sipping champagne in his luxury penthouse apartment.
He looked at his reflection in the floor-to-ceiling mirror, adjusting his silk tie. In his mind, he had already won. The doctors had reported that Victor remained in a secure, isolated state. The board was completely terrified of stock devaluation and was ready to hand over full executive authority to him at two o'clock tomorrow afternoon.
Julian pulled out his phone and dialed his head of security.
“Is everything set for tomorrow’s press conference?” Julian asked smoothly.
“Yes, Mr. Hale,” the security head replied. “All major financial news outlets are credentialed. The board room is set up.”
“Good,” Julian chuckled darkly. “And what about the nanny and the children? Have you located where Vance hid them?”
“We tracked their transport vehicle to a property in Monterey, sir. Should we initiate the custody intervention?”
May you like
“Not yet,” Julian smirked, pouring himself another glass. “Let me secure the CEO title tomorrow first. Once the company is mine, I will personally file the papers to have those children placed under state wardship, and I’ll ensure Amelia Brooks is arrested for grand larceny using those forged checks I planted in her apartment.”
He raised his glass to his reflection. “To family,” he whispered maliciously.
