Chapter 6 - The Unlikely Meeting
True to her word, Claire arranged a meeting. She requested a private conference at the hospital's family counseling center, inviting Mark and Julia Miller. The Millers were hesitant, wary of the family of the man who had tried to alter the course of their lives, but they agreed out of sheer desperation.
Claire arrived with Noah. When Julia Miller saw Noah, her eyes softened. She walked across the room and knelt in front of the young boy.
“You’re Noah, right?” Julia asked.
Noah nodded nervously.
“I want to say thank you,” Julia said, her voice trembling. “If it weren't for you, I would be holding a baby that wasn't mine, and your mom would be holding mine. You gave me my daughter back.”
Mark Miller stepped forward, shaking Claire’s hand. “We appreciate you meeting us, Mrs. Bennett. We know your husband is facing serious charges. We... we don't want to see him ruined. He was desperate to save his sister's baby. We want to save her too, but we just don't have the means.”
Claire took a seat at the round table. “That’s why we’re here. Daniel’s actions were illegal and deeply wrong, but his heart was breaking for Faith. My father established a medical trust fund for my children years ago. It is heavily endowed, and by the terms of the trust, it can be used for immediate family members or charitable medical sponsorships approved by the trustees.”
Claire looked at the Millers, her expression filled with fierce determination. “I’ve spoken with my father. We want to fully sponsor Faith’s surgery. We will cover every medical expense, every post-op care session, and any future treatment she needs.”

Julia gasped, covering her mouth as tears spilled over. Mark looked stunned, unable to speak.
“On one condition,” Claire added gently. “We ask that you drop any personal civil claims against Daniel, and provide a statement of leniency to the judge for his sentencing. He needs help, not a life behind bars.”
