Chapter 9 - THE RESOLUTION IN NEW YORK

Three days later, high above the glittering lights of Manhattan, inside a heavily guarded penthouse overlooking Central Park, Don Salvatore Moretti poured himself a glass of expensive scotch. He believed he was untouchable. He believed Elena’s failure was just a minor setback, and that the Bolaro family was too busy dealing with internal chaos to retaliate.

He was catastrophically wrong.

The heavy steel security doors of the penthouse didn't just open—they were blown off their hydraulic hinges with a deafening blast. Before Moretti’s bodyguards could even draw their weapons, Lorenzo Bolaro and his elite enforcers swept through the rooms like a relentless storm.

Within three minutes, the penthouse was entirely under Lorenzo's control.

Salvatore Moretti sat frozen in his leather armchair, staring down the barrel of Lorenzo’s silver-plated pistol.

"Lorenzo," Moretti forced a nervous, shaky laugh, trying to maintain a facade of bravado. "You're violating neutral territory. If you kill me, a full-scale underworld war will erupt across the East Coast."

Lorenzo didn't yell. He walked slowly toward Moretti, leaning over the desk until their faces were inches apart. His voice was a terrifying, icy whisper.

"You touched my son," Lorenzo said. "You used a grieving aunt to poison an eight-month-old baby in his crib. You broke the only rule that matters."

"I—I'm a businessman—" Moretti stammered, sweat beading on his forehead.

"Business is over, Salvatore," Lorenzo interrupted coldly. He didn't pull the trigger. Instead, he slammed a thick manila folder down onto the desk, bursting with federal indictments, bank records, and wire transfer logs linking Moretti directly to the conspiracy. "This is a complete record of every illegal operation, tax evasion scheme, and drug route your family operates. Within the hour, every federal prosecutor from Chicago to Washington is going to receive a copy of this file."

Moretti’s face turned the color of ash. "You're... you're turning me over to the feds? You're a mafia boss!"

"I'm a father," Lorenzo corrected him quietly, straightening his suit jacket. "And unlike you, I don't need to hide behind shadows to destroy my enemies. Enjoy your new home in a maximum-security federal penitentiary."

As Lorenzo turned and walked out of the penthouse, leaving Moretti surrounded by his own crumbling empire, the war was over before it even truly began. The threat to Nico was gone, forever.
