Chapter 7 - The Blueprint of a Family

The following morning, Marcelo canceled all his corporate meetings.
He called in the premier interior designer of the city, but instead of blueprints for luxury offices or corporate lounges, he handed her the architectural plans for the east hallway.
"I want this entire wing gutted and redesigned," Marcelo instructed, pointing to the plans.
The designer looked confused. "Sir, isn't this the restricted east wing? The one that was supposed to be a nursery years ago?"
"Exactly," Marcelo said, a warm, genuine smile touching his lips. "Only we aren't building a nursery anymore. We are building a child's sanctuary. A princess room for a very brave six-year-old girl, an adjoining nursery for her baby brother, and a connecting family library."
Over the next month, the east hallway transformed. Gone was the oppressive silence that had haunted Marcelo for a decade. In its place came the sound of laughter, footsteps, construction hammers, and paint rollers.
Sofia was personally involved in every design choice. She picked out pastel wall colors, star-shaped ceiling lights that glowed in the dark, and rows of bookshelves filled with fairy tales and adventure stories.
On the day the rooms were finally completed, Marcelo led Sofia down the hallway blindfolded with his hands gently covering her eyes.
"Ready?" he asked.
"Ready!" she giggled, hopping on one foot.
Marcelo lowered his hands.
Sofia gasped. Her eyes widened in absolute wonder as she took in her new room. It was warm, magical, and entirely safe. In the corner sat a massive, plush teddy bear, and on her bed lay a brand-new pink pair of shoes—matching the single one she had carried out of the ruins.
She turned around, threw her arms around Marcelo’s waist, and buried her face in his shirt.
"Thank you, Daddy," she whispered.
May you like
Marcelo froze. The word hung in the air, sweet and heavy, echoing through his soul like a long-awaited blessing. He swallowed the lump in his throat, closed his eyes, and wrapped his arms securely around his daughter.
"You are so very welcome, my love," he choked out, kissing the top of her head.
