Chapter 10 - The Warmth of Home

Three years later.

The Monarch Room was illuminated by the soft glow of golden chandeliers, just as it had been years ago. But tonight, the atmosphere was entirely different.

There were no cold glances, no tense whispering mobsters, no political games, and no poisoned water glasses. The entire restaurant had been reserved for a private celebration: the launch of the Emily & Claire Blackwell Children’s Hospital Wing, a state-of-the-art medical facility fully funded by Roman’s foundation.

Laughter and warm jazz music filled the room. Marcus, now the head of Roman’s legitimate global logistics firm, stood near the entrance in a sharp suit, chatting pleasantly with doctors and community leaders.

At the head table sat Roman Blackwell.

He wore a dark navy suit, looking healthy, relaxed, and remarkably handsome. Next to him sat Claire, radiant in an elegant emerald dress, her hand resting warmly in Roman’s.

Beside them, eight-year-old Lily was busy coloring a large drawing book, looking happy, vibrant, and bursting with energy. And sitting securely in a wooden high chair next to Claire was a healthy, chubby ten-month-old baby boy with dark hair and bright blue eyes—Leo, Roman and Claire’s son.

Lily reached over, gently tickling her baby brother's stomach, making him let out a high-pitched, adorable giggle.

"Look, Mom!" Lily said proudly to Claire. "Leo likes my drawing!"

Claire smiled softly, leaning over to kiss Lily’s cheek. "That's because you're the best big sister in the world, Lily."

Roman watched his family—his real family.

He thought back to the dark night years ago when he had stood frozen on this very marble floor, watching a poor, brave waitress run toward the door with his dying daughter. He remembered the ice in his heart, the cold champagne in Vanessa’s glass, and the terrifying silence of a life built on deceit.

Now, he reached across the table, taking Claire’s hand and bringing it to his lips.

"What are you thinking about?" Claire asked softly, her warm brown eyes meeting his.

"I was thinking about how a single moment can save a man's soul," Roman replied, his voice full of deep gratitude. "I was thinking about how lucky I am that you ran."

Claire smiled, leaning in to press a gentle kiss to his lips. "I would run to save you both a million times over, Roman."

Lily giggled, covering her eyes with her hands. "Eww, gross! Parents kissing!"

Roman laughed—a loud, genuine, joyful laugh that echoed across the warm room. He wrapped one arm around Claire and reached out to ruffle Lily’s hair, holding his entire world close to his heart.

The shadows of the past were completely gone, replaced forever by the unbreakable warmth of love, truth, and home.
