Chapter 4 - Eviction and Exposure
By 2:00 PM that afternoon, Daniel Harlow’s world had completely disintegrated. He stood on the sidewalk outside the Vance-Harlow Tower, clutching a single cardboard box containing his personal desk items.
Beside him stood Vanessa, crying hysterical tears that ruined her heavy mascara. Her phone was buzzing relentlessly with calls from her landlord and credit card companies—every corporate line of credit had been cancelled simultaneously.
“What do we do now, Daniel?” Vanessa sobbed. “Where are we going to stay? The hotel cancelled our reservation!”
“Shut up, Vanessa!” Daniel snapped. He pulled out his personal phone and opened his banking app. A red alert flashed: ACCOUNT FROZEN BY COURT ORDER - INJUNCTION #88219.
He called his bank manager, screaming into the receiver. “Unfreeze my checking account immediately!”
“I’m sorry, Mr. Harlow,” the manager replied. “We received an emergency court order freezing all accounts linked to your Social Security number pending the forensic audit. Furthermore, the mortgage on your secondary penthouse in Miami has been accelerated due to fraud allegations.”
Daniel threw the phone onto the pavement, shattering the glass screen.
Two blocks away, in a sleek corner office overlooking Central Park, Claire sat in a velvet armchair, nursing Lily. Her father sat across from her, sipping black coffee.
“You held your composure impeccably today, Claire,” Arthur said proudly.
“I gave him three years of my life, Dad,” Claire said softly. “I sacrificed my career, my identity, everything... because I thought he loved me.”
“He was a parasite who saw a quiet woman and mistook her kindness for weakness,” Arthur said gently.
Marcus Sterling entered. “Miss Vance, Mr. Chairman, the District Attorney has officially opened a criminal investigation into grand larceny, corporate fraud, and computer crimes against Daniel Harlow and Vanessa Hale. The press has caught wind of the story.”

By evening, the scandal dominated every financial and tabloid news outlet in the country. Social media exploded with viral clips of Daniel being escorted out of his apartment complex by sheriff's deputies executing an eviction warrant. Old business associates refused to take his calls, and every elite club in Manhattan revoked his membership by nightfall.
