Chapter 10 - The Grace of New Beginnings

One year later, the autumn leaves had turned brilliant shades of amber and crimson across the Hudson Valley.

The wedding was small, intimate, and held in the sunlit courtyard of the Moretti estate. There were no underworld figures, no armed guards standing watch with cold suspicion—only close friends, Clare and her new partner, Nurse Margaret holding a giggling Lucia, and Dr. Adler smiling warmly from the front row.

Emma wore a simple, elegant ivory dress adorned with delicate handmade lace she had stitched herself. As she walked down the stone aisle on the arm of her sister Clare toward Gabriel—who stood waiting with Anthony balanced proudly on his hip—she felt a profound sense of peace settle deep into her bones.

She had lost Grace to the cruel, frozen earth of Queens, but in return, the universe had woven her life together with two motherless infants and a man who had learned how to love with his whole heart.

When Emma reached the altar, Gabriel handed Anthony to Clare for a moment, took both of Emma’s hands in his, and smiled—a warm, radiant smile that completely transformed his face.

“You look breathtaking,” Gabriel murmured.

“You scrub up pretty well yourself, Mr. Moretti,” Emma teased softly.

As they exchanged vows beneath the sprawling oak trees, the autumn breeze carried the distant sound of children laughing from the nursery window above.

Life was not without its scars. The past could never be completely erased, and the shadows of what had been would always linger at the edges of their memory. But as Gabriel slid the platinum band onto her finger and leaned down to kiss her, Emma knew the ultimate truth of her journey:

Even the deepest pain, when met with courage and unconditional love, can blossom into a grace that heals everything it touches.
