Chapter 9 - The Legal Bond

The following spring, the estate hosted a wedding. It wasn't a massive, high-society media circus with hundreds of corporate executives. Instead, it was a beautiful, intimate gathering held in the restored gardens. The staff, the medical team who had helped Maria, and a few close friends stood by as Daniel and Maria exchanged vows under an archway of blooming white roses.

Elena, serving as the proudest flower girl in the world, wore a beautiful white dress that fit her perfectly. She sprinkled petals along the grass with an expression of intense, joyful focus.

A few weeks after the wedding, Daniel called a special meeting in his private study. Sitting across from him were Maria and their family attorney.

Daniel pushed a thick stack of legal documents across the polished mahogany table.

"What is this?" Maria asked, smiling.

"These are the formal adoption papers," Daniel said, his eyes shining with profound pride. "As of this morning, Elena is legally my daughter. Her name is officially Elena Torres Cole. She is my legal heir, but more importantly, she is my little girl forever."

Maria covered her mouth, tears of joy spilling over her cheeks. She threw her arms around Daniel’s neck, holding him tightly.

"Thank you," she sobbed happily. "Thank you for loving her so much."

"She loved me first," Daniel whispered into her hair, looking out the window to where Elena was playing with Mr. Bear on the lawn. "She showed me how to love when I had completely forgotten how."
