Chapter 9 - Building a New Life

That evening, after the children were tucked into bed, Dominic invited Claire to the upper terrace overlooking the city skyline. The harbor lights sparkled in the distance, reflecting off the calm waters of the bay.

“Claire,” Dominic began, stepping close to her. “When you walked over to my table at Bellamy House four months ago, I was a man living in darkness. I thought money and fear were the only things keeping my world together. I was failing as a father, and I was losing my mind to grief.”

Claire looked up into his gray eyes, which were now filled with unmistakable warmth and affection.

“You didn't just save Caleb’s life,” Dominic continued, taking both of her hands in his. “You brought warmth back into this house. You brought laughter back to my life. You showed me what a real family looks like.”

Claire felt her heart swell, tears prickling at the corners of her eyes. “Dominic... you gave Emma and me a safe home when we had nowhere to go. You protected us.”

“I don't want you to just have a home here as an employee, Claire,” Dominic said gently, reaching into his pocket and bringing out a simple, elegant velvet box. He opened it to reveal a breathtaking ring set with a brilliant sapphire, surrounded by small diamonds.

“I want you to stay by my side forever. As my partner, as Caleb’s mother, and as the love of my life. Will you marry me, Claire?”

Claire looked at the ring, then up into the eyes of the man who had transformed from a feared crime boss into a loving father and her protector.

“Yes,” Claire whispered, tears of pure joy slipping down her cheeks. “Yes, Dominic. Absolutely yes.”

Dominic pulled her into his arms, kissing her deeply under the starlit sky as the harbor breeze swept gently around them.
