Chapter 6 - Storming the Docks

The trap was set for midnight at Port Covington, Warehouse 14—the central hub of Mercer Harborline’s export operations.
Using the evidence from Elena’s USB drive, Dominic uncovered that Julian and Mrs. Vance were planning to move fifty million dollars in embezzled bonds out of the harbor aboard an unregistered cargo vessel bound for South America before the grand jury indictments could be issued.
Dominic assembled his most loyal security team, led by Ben Carver. But despite Dominic’s insistence that Claire stay safe at the Roland Park estate with the children, Mrs. Vance—who had fled the estate earlier that evening—had slipped back into the property through a servant’s passage, attempting to snatch Caleb to use as leverage.
Claire had caught Mrs. Vance in the nursery. Fighting with the ferocious courage of a mother, Claire had knocked Mrs. Vance unconscious with a heavy brass lamp, locked her in the wine cellar, and immediately called Dominic.
“Dominic! Mrs. Vance tried to take Caleb,” Claire reported over the phone, her voice breathless but steady. “I knocked her out. She’s locked downstairs. But I found a paper in her coat—Julian knows you’re coming to Warehouse 14. It’s an ambush!”
“Claire, stay inside! Lock the gates!” Dominic yelled over the sound of rain and roaring engines.

“No! Ben’s men aren't enough—Julian hired external mercenaries from the docks! You’re walking straight into a crossfire!”
Refusing to let the man who had protected her family walk into a trap, Claire left Emma under the care of two heavily armed guard dogs and security staff at the estate, took Dominic’s secondary armored sedan, and sped toward the harbor through the blinding rainstorm.
