Chapter 9 - The Family Portrait

Two months later, the grand ballroom of the Plaza Hotel was transformed into a breathtaking winter wonderland of white roses, crystal chandeliers, and warm candlelight.
The occasion was twofold: the official launch gala for the Mercer-Blackthorne Foundation, and an intimate celebration attended by close friends, trusted associates, and philanthropic leaders from around the globe.
In the center of the ballroom, a string quartet played a soft classical arrangement. Photographers from major financial and lifestyle publications hovered at a respectful distance, capturing every moment.
Maya wore a delicate ivory dress with a velvet red sash, holding the hand of her grandmother—who had finally reconciled with Julian after discovering the full extent of Conrad and Sloane’s deception. The little girl was currently showing off her new sketching journal to the guests, completely comfortable in the spotlight.
At the edge of the dance floor, Julian stood with his hand resting securely on Hannah’s waist. She wore a stunning emerald-green silk gown that caught the candlelight with every movement.
"You clean up remarkably well for a hardened billionaire," Hannah teased, smoothing the lapel of his tailored tuxedo jacket.
"And you look entirely breathtaking," Julian replied, pulling her closer as the quartet transitioned into a slow, romantic waltz. "I spent seven years believing I had lost everything worth having, Hannah. And now, I realize how lucky I am that you and Maya gave me a second chance."
Hannah rested her head against his shoulder as they began to glide across the polished marble floor. "We didn't give you a second chance, Julian. We just finally found our way back home."
Across the room, Maya ran over to them, holding up a fresh glass of sparkling apple cider. "Mom, Dad, can I have a toast?"
Julian scooped Maya up into his arms with a wide grin, while Hannah raised her glass alongside them.

"To new beginnings," Julian said, looking into the eyes of the two most important people in his world.
"And to always staying together," Maya added earnestly, clinking her plastic cup against theirs.
