Chapter 8 - The Legacy of the Silver Locket

As autumn rolled back into Chicago, painting the trees in brilliant shades of amber and gold, Harold decided it was time to honor the past properly.
He commissioned a complete restoration of the west wing of the mansion, turning it into a dedicated memorial and foundation named after his late son, Michael. The Michael Bennett Foundation was established to provide housing, education, and financial support for underprivileged single parents and orphaned children across the Midwest—ensuring that no child would ever suffer the humiliation of hunger or abandonment.
On a cool Saturday afternoon, Harold and Elena stood together in his private study.
Harold unlocked the bottom drawer of his antique desk, taking out the old photograph of Michael and Margaret at the lake. He placed it carefully beside a new, brightly framed photograph of Elena smiling proudly on her first day at her new school.
Elena looked up at her grandfather, her fingers touching the silver locket resting against her chest.
"Grandpa," she asked softly, "do you think my daddy is watching us?"
Harold smiled, kneeling down so he was eye-level with her. He placed his warm, calloused hands on her shoulders, his eyes shining with pride.

"I know he is, sweetheart," Harold whispered gently. "And he is prouder than you can possibly imagine."
She threw her small arms around his neck, hugging him tightly. Harold closed his eyes, holding her close, knowing that the Bennett empire was finally in the hands of someone with a heart pure enough to carry it into the future.
