Chapter 6 - The Heir Apparent

The entire boardroom stared in stunned silence as the young girl and her mother walked in. Grant looked as though he had seen a ghost. His eyes bulged, and his knees wobbled beneath the weight of absolute panic.
"Who... who are they?" Vanessa stammered, looking from Martha to Harold in utter confusion. "Father, why are strangers in an executive board meeting?"
Harold stepped forward, gently placing his hand on Elena’s shoulder.
"These are not strangers, Vanessa," Harold announced, his voice echoing with absolute authority. "This is Elena Bennett. Your niece. And this is Martha, the widow of my youngest son, Michael."
Cole dropped his phone onto the mahogany table with a loud clatter. "Michael? But Michael's dead! And he didn't have any—"
"Michael was driven out of this family because of a lie," Harold interrupted, his eyes locked onto Grant, who was now trembling violently against the wall. "A lie engineered by the very son I trusted to run this company. Grant framed his own brother to cover up his initial embezzlement, ensuring Michael would never be around to question his authority or inherit a rightful share."
"You can't prove any of this!" Grant shrieked, losing his composure completely. He pointed a shaking finger at Harold. "The old man is losing his mind! He's senile! He’s putting a random servant girl in line for the multi-billion-dollar estate just to spite us!"
"I am entirely of sound mind, Grant," Harold replied calmly, signaling to the two federal investigators standing near the door. "And the United States Attorney's Office, who have been reviewing these financial records for the past forty-eight hours, agree with me completely. Federal marshals, please escort Mr. Grant Bennett out of my building."
Before Grant could lunge forward or protest further, two officers stepped up, placing cold steel handcuffs around his wrists. As Grant was dragged screaming and kicking out of the boardroom, Vanessa and Cole sat paralyzed, realizing their golden parachute had just exploded into dust.
Harold turned his attention to the remaining board members, who sat in stunned awe.
"Effective immediately," Harold declared, "Grant Bennett is stripped of all executive titles and removed from the corporate succession plan. Vanessa and Cole's monthly allowances are suspended pending a complete forensic audit of their personal and foundation expenditures."
He looked down at Elena, whose eyes were wide with wonder and courage.

"And as for the future of Bennett Industrial Group," Harold continued, his voice softening with deep paternal warmth, "and the entire family estate... my granddaughter, Elena Bennett, is hereby named primary heir to the Bennett fortune, to be held in an educational and protective trust until she reaches majority, with Martha acting as primary trustee alongside Arthur Vance."
The board members, realizing the sheer, undeniable justice and legal backing of the decision, stood up one by one and began to applaud.
