Chapter 10 - The Happy Ending

Five years later, the Lake Forest estate was no longer a cold, forbidding fortress of iron gates and high walls. The heavy iron gates had been permanently removed, replaced by low, welcoming stone pillars surrounded by vibrant flower gardens tended by Martha and her team.
The mansion was filled with life, warmth, and the sound of music.
Harold Bennett, now seventy-seven, sat comfortably on the back veranda, watching the sunset paint the Chicago skyline in brilliant shades of purple and gold. He was older, certainly, but his spirit was lighter than it had ever been in his entire life.
Footsteps echoed softly on the wooden deck, and a fifteen-year-old Elena walked up to him, holding two cups of warm spiced cider. She handed one to her grandfather and sat down on the chair beside him.
"Board meeting went well, boss?" Harold teased gently, a warm smile crinkling the corners of his eyes.
Elena laughed, taking a sip of her cider. "Better than you'd think, Grandpa. We just approved the funding for three new community centers in South Chicago. And Uncle Cole actually stayed late to review the logistics reports without complaining once."
Harold chuckled softly. "Miracles do happen."
"Only when people are given a second chance to learn what really matters," Elena replied, her expression turning thoughtful as she touched the silver locket resting against her collarbone.
Across the lawn, Vanessa and Cole could be seen laughing together as they helped set up long tables for a neighborhood charity dinner hosted on the estate grounds—a dinner open to everyone, where no one was ever turned away, and where every hungry soul was welcomed with open arms.

Harold wrapped his arm around his granddaughter's shoulders, pulling her close as the evening stars began to twinkle above the peaceful estate.
The storm had passed. The empire was safe. And true love had finally found its way home.
