Chapter 7 - Healing the Wounds

Three months passed. The transition of power within Bennett Industrial Group was swift, ruthless, and entirely legal.

Grant was sentenced to a federal penitentiary for corporate fraud and forgery, facing a lengthy prison term with no possibility of parole. Vanessa and Cole, forced to face the consequences of their financial recklessness, were given a choice: either submit to rigorous corporate rehabilitation and start at entry-level positions within the company's warehouse divisions, or be cut off completely. Terrified of a life without luxury, both reluctantly chose to start at the bottom—learning for the first time what hard work actually entailed.

At the Lake Forest mansion, the oppressive chill of isolation had vanished.

The sprawling estate no longer felt like a cold museum of greed. The grand dining room table, once reserved for empty ceremonies, now echoed with the laughter of a real family.

Harold’s health, surprisingly, had stabilized. Dr. Laura Mitchell visited the estate weekly for checkups, constantly amazed by the old man's renewed vitality.

"I told you to avoid stress, Mr. Bennett," Dr. Mitchell smiled during a checkup in the private garden. "Instead, you dismantled your entire corporate structure and took in a granddaughter. Yet, your heart rate has never been better."

"Peace of mind is the best medicine, Doctor," Harold replied, leaning back in his garden chair.

Nearby, on the emerald lawn, ten-year-old Elena was chasing a golden retriever puppy, her bright laughter floating through the crisp morning air. Martha sat on a nearby bench, reading a book with a serene, peaceful smile on her face.

Harold watched them, feeling a profound sense of closure. He had spent his entire life building an empire of stone, glass, and steel, believing that wealth was the ultimate legacy. He now understood that true wealth couldn't be measured in bank accounts or stock portfolios. It was measured in empathy, in kindness, and in the love of a child who shared her only sandwich with a freezing beggar on the curb.
