Chapter 5 - The Emergency Board Meeting

By 4:00 PM that afternoon, an emergency summons had been dispatched to every corner of the Bennett Industrial Group. Grant, Vanessa, and Cole were stunned to receive an immediate, mandatory notification: Full Board Meeting in the Executive Penthouse at 6:00 PM.

Grant stormed into the executive boardroom first, loosening his tie in frustration. "What is the old man playing at? He's supposed to be resting after his heart scare! If he changes the corporate bylaws now, it could throw our Q4 projections into chaos."

Vanessa glided in behind him, fixing her diamond-encrusted earrings. "Relax, Grant. He’s probably just drafting another donation to some obscure museum. We'll handle him."

Cole slumped into a leather chair, checking his phone for stock tickers. "As long as my trust fund disbursement isn't touched, he can do whatever he wants."

At precisely 6:00 PM, the heavy double doors swung open.

Harold Bennett walked in.

He didn't look like a dying man. He stood tall, his posture commanding, his gaze sweeping over his three children with a chilling intensity that instantly silenced the room. Behind him walked Arthur Vance, carrying a heavy leather briefcase, followed by corporate legal counsel and two federal investigators.

"Father," Grant said, forcing a strained, dutiful smile. "We were worried about your health. Why call an emergency board meeting when you should be recovering?"

Harold did not sit at the head of the table. Instead, he stopped halfway, resting his hand on the back of a chair.

"Save the performance, Grant," Harold said, his voice ringing crisp and clear through the silent boardroom. "We are not here to discuss Q4 projections. We are here to audit the past."

Grant’s smile faltered. "I don't know what you mean."

"Arthur, open the briefcase," Harold commanded.

Arthur placed thick folders in front of each board member. Grant opened his, and the color drained entirely from his face. The documents detailed every single fraudulent wire transfer, every shell company, and every falsified audit report from the past decade—all tracing directly back to Grant Bennett.

"You embezzled millions from our regional distribution centers," Harold stated coldly. "You systematically ruined company assets for your own personal luxury. And worse... eleven years ago, you framed your younger brother, Michael, for your own crimes."

Vanessa gasped, covering her mouth. Cole stared at Grant in sheer disbelief.

"Father, this is a setup! These are forged documents!" Grant stammered, standing up so fast his chair screeched against the hardwood floor. "You can't believe this nonsense!"

"It's not nonsense, Grant," a quiet, clear voice interrupted from the doorway.

The heavy doors opened once more. Martha walked in, holding ten-year-old Elena by the hand. Elena wore a clean, bright dress, and resting proudly against her collarbone was the gleaming silver locket, catching the bright light of the penthouse chandelier.
