Chapter 8 - Breaking the Chains

With the legal battles behind them, Harper focused entirely on creating a safe, joyous environment for Lila. They moved out of the old apartment into a sunlit house near the coast, far away from the memories of the past.
Dr. Ramos continued to work with Lila through gentle play therapy. Over time, the nightmares faded. Lila no longer flinched when lights were turned off, nor did she harbor any guilt over speaking up.
"You know what, Mommy?" Lila said one afternoon as they painted in their new backyard.
"What, my love?" Harper asked, looking up from her canvas.
"I’m glad I told you about the game."

Harper knelt beside her, pulling her close. "Telling the truth was the bravest thing anyone could ever do, Lila. Because you spoke up, you saved both of us."
Lila smiled, her bright eyes shining with complete trust and peace. She dipped her paintbrush into yellow paint and drew a giant, glowing sun across her paper.
