Chapter 10 - A Happy Ending

Three weeks later, the sun shone brightly through the kitchen window of David and Claire's newly relocated home—a quiet, secure house miles away from the shadows of the past. The little American flag on the porch tapped softly against the glass, a gentle, ordinary rhythm of everyday life restored.
Marcus and his associates were locked away behind bars, facing decades in federal prison. The nightmare that had haunted the edges of our lives was finally, permanently over.
David stood by the counter, expertly mixing a fresh bottle of formula while Claire rocked the baby in the living room, humming a soft, beautiful lullaby. The baby was smiling now, cooing happily as his tiny fingers curled around his mother’s thumb.
David walked over, handing me a warm cup of chamomile tea before sitting down beside me at the kitchen table. He smiled, his eyes bright and free of the heavy burden he had carried for so long.
