We met in a formal conference room at the courthouse. Claire sat across from me, flanked by her attorneys. The arrogance she had maintained for months had finally evaporated, replaced by a defensive, defeated posture.
David presented our terms: Claire would sign a full divorce decree, forfeit any claims to spousal support or the marital residence, and agree to a structured, supervised visitation plan that prioritized Mia's emotional recovery and safety.
Claire looked at me, her voice trembling slightly. "You stole my daughter's affection from me, Mark."

"No, Claire," I replied calmly but firmly. "You traded your daughter's trust for money and control. I didn't steal anything. I simply gave Mia the safety and honesty she deserved. You tried to force her to fear me, but love and kindness aren't things you can manufacture or destroy with a script."
Realizing she had no leverage left and facing severe judicial penalties if the case proceeded to trial, Claire reluctantly signed the settlement agreements. The court finalized the divorce and granted me full legal guardianship and custody, with Claire required to undergo court-mandated therapy before any visitation could be considered.
