Chapter 10 - The Happy Ending

Ten years after the night Mia handed me the laminated card, I stood on the porch of our home watching a grown-up Mia load her bags into the trunk of her car. She was off to start her freshman year at university, pursuing a degree in child psychology to help children who had faced trauma and hardship.

She walked up the porch steps, her eyes bright with excitement and nostalgia. She looked at the house, then turned to me with a warm, loving smile.

"Ready for the big move, kiddo?" I asked, smiling back.

"Ready," she said softly. "I was just thinking about everything we've been through to get here."

She reached into her coat pocket and pulled out a small, framed photo. It was the drawing she had made for me years ago—the one showing the two of us under the sun. "I'm taking this with me for my dorm room," she said. "To remind me that no matter how hard things seem, truth and love always win."

I pulled her into a tight hug. "I'm so proud of you, Mia. You turned a painful beginning into a life filled with purpose and hope."

As her car drove down the driveway toward a bright future, I stood beside Sarah, feeling immense gratitude. The dark plan that was meant to break us had instead forged an unbreakable bond of fatherly love—a story that began with a hidden card and ended with a true, everlasting family.
