Chapter 3 - Gathering the Evidence

That night, after reassuring Mia and reading her favorite story until she fell into a peaceful sleep, I sat down at my desk with a notebook and a clear mind. The initial shock had worn off, replaced by a fierce determination to protect Mia and clear my name before Claire could execute her next move.
I realized that Claire's business trip might be a cover or an attempt to consult with her legal team while keeping me at arm's length. I needed to document everything immediately. I carefully photographed the laminated card, the handwritten instructions, the gold stars marking specific dates, and the voice recorder from every angle. I then backed up the photos to a secure cloud drive to which only I had access.
Next, I reviewed my own records. I pulled up calendar entries, receipts, and text messages corresponding to the eleven starred dates on the card. Each date matched an instance where Claire had falsely claimed Mia was disturbed by my presence or where she had conveniently mentioned to friends or family that Mia was struggling to adapt to me.
The pattern was undeniable: Claire was systematically building a paper trail of fabricated emotional abuse to secure full custody, child support, and a substantial financial settlement in a pre-planned divorce.

Early the next morning, I reached out to David Vance, a trusted family law attorney whom I had known for years. I explained the situation briefly over the phone. Recognizing the gravity of the situation, David asked me to come to his office right away.
"Mark, this is severe," David said after examining the evidence in his office. "She was setting up an intentional parental alienation and fraud strategy. But because you have the physical evidence and the recorded admission, the table has turned completely. However, we must act swiftly to ensure Mia's safety and legal custody."
