Chapter 7 - The Final Verdict

One year after that fateful anniversary dinner, we returned to court for the final divorce and permanent custody settlement. Graham sat alone at his table, looking noticeably aged, tired, and defeated without his entourage of lawyers and mistresses.

The evidence against him was overwhelming. His willingness to sacrifice his daughter's emotional well-being for his own vanity had been thoroughly documented. The judge granted me full legal and physical custody of Lucy. Graham was granted limited, unsupervised visitation on alternate weekends, contingent upon his continued participation in co-parenting counseling and strict adherence to Lucy’s medical care plans.

He was also ordered to pay substantial child support and transfer full ownership of our family home to me. When the judge finalized the decree, Graham looked across the aisle at me—not with the arrogant, controlling gaze he had used at the hotel steakhouse, but with a hollow, desperate regret.

I felt no desire for revenge, only a quiet, profound freedom. I picked up my handbag, thanked Eleanor, and walked out of the courthouse into the bright morning sunshine, leaving Graham and his past behind forever.
