Chapter 4 - The Custody Battle Begins

The emergency custody hearing took place on a rainy Tuesday morning. Graham arrived in a tailored navy suit, accompanied by his high-priced corporate lawyer and Vanessa, who wore a conservative pastel dress designed to make her look like a devoted, nurturing stepmother-to-be.
Graham’s attorney opened with a fiery speech, painting me as an uncooperative, bitter ex-wife who was obstructing the father-daughter bond and denying Lucy "cutting-edge confidence training." He presented Vanessa’s edited twelve-second video to the judge, claiming it showed Lucy thriving under their structured guidance.
When it was Eleanor’s turn, her voice was smooth as ice. "Your Honor, we would like to present the full, unedited video of that evening—captured by a family member who was actually present."

Eleanor played the full four minutes on the courtroom monitor. The atmosphere in the room shifted instantly. The judge, Honorable Margaret Reyes, watched in mounting distaste as Vanessa repeatedly halted a terrified seven-year-old child, and as Graham casually plotted a custody snatch while his daughter walked away in tears.
When the video ended, Eleanor submitted Dr. Patel’s clinical evaluation along with Graham’s text message calling medical guidelines "excessively rigid." Judge Reyes looked over her glasses at Graham and his attorney, her expression thunderous.
