Chapter 10 - Under Our Roof

The story concludes three years later.

Arden House was alive with the sound of laughter. A three-year-old boy named Leo, Sophia and Thomas’s son, was chasing Buddy the dog across the vast, sunlit living room. Wren, now a brilliant thirteen-year-old who inherited her mother's fierce intelligence, was helping her brother build a fort out of cushions.

Sophia sat on the porch swing, sipping tea with Thomas as the sun began to set, casting a golden hue over the entire estate.

Her phone chimed with a notification. The Vance Foundation had just successfully opened its tenth national shelter for women and children.

Thomas wrapped his arm around her shoulders, pulling her close. Sophia leaned into his warmth, feeling the steady, safe beat of his heart. She looked back through the open French doors at her children, safe, happy, and loved.

She remembered the broken woman who had stood in the blood-stained hallway years ago, terrified but resolute. She had saved her daughter, took back her birthright, and built a kingdom out of the ashes of her pain.

Wren ran out onto the porch, jumping into her mother's lap and hugging both of them tightly. "I love our home, Mama."

Sophia kissed the top of her daughter's head, her heart overflowing with a peace that could never be broken.

"I love it too, sweetheart," Sophia whispered, looking out over her beautiful, thriving life. "This is truly our roof."
