Chapter 6 - The Siege of Sunset Marine

Midnight at Sunset Marine in Brooklyn was a symphony of industrial coldness—the screech of overhead cranes lifting shipping containers, the heavy diesel hum of cargo trucks, and the rhythmic slacking of dark harbor water against concrete piers.

The warehouse at Pier 42 was supposed to be a routine import facility for European textiles and machinery. In reality, it was Viktor Vance’s primary clearinghouse for contraband and illegal arms trafficking.

The night air was pierced by a deafening, metallic crash as the reinforced steel security gates of the compound were blown completely off their tracks by a synchronized explosive charge.

Before the dust had even settled, three black SUVs tore through the smoking wreckage, sliding to a violent halt right in front of the main loading dock doors. Doors flew open in unison, and a dozen heavily armed Starks enforcers poured out, moving with ruthless, military-grade precision.

At the front of the formation walked Rory Starks.

He didn't draw a weapon immediately. He walked with his hands loose at his sides, his face carved from granite, his eyes scanning the cavernous interior of the warehouse where Vance’s private security guards were already scrambling in total disarray.

“Vance!” Rory’s voice echoed across the massive, steel-beamed structure like a thunderclap, carrying over the hum of the generators and the shouts of confused mercenaries. “Show your face!”

From the elevated metal catwalk above the main floor, a figure stepped out from the shadows. Viktor Vance—dressed in an immaculate Italian wool suit that looked entirely out of place in a gritty dock warehouse—held a glass of scotch in one hand and a remote detonator in the other. A thin, nervous smile played across his lips, though his eyes darted frantically toward the exits now blocked by Rory’s men.

“Rory, my old friend,” Vance called down, his voice dripping with false camaraderie. “I must admit, I didn't expect you to leave your daughters’ bedside tonight. Who’s tucking them in? The maid?”

Rory took three slow steps forward, stopping right beneath the catwalk, staring up at the man who had tried to destroy his children’s minds.

“You crossed a line, Viktor,” Rory said, his voice terrifyingly calm. “Business is business. Territories are territories. But when you bring children into a syndicate war, you forfeit your right to draw breath.”

Vance laughed nervously, raising the remote. “Ah, looking at the little psychological souvenir I left behind, I see. Brilliant piece of engineering, wasn't it? A few more weeks of that, and you’d have checked yourself into an asylum, leaving the board wide open for a hostile takeover.”

“You thought you were clever,” Rory said, his hand sliding slowly toward the custom SIG Sauer at his hip. “You thought my security was blind. But you made one critical mistake.”

Vance’s smile faltered slightly. “What mistake?”

“You underestimated someone who actually cared,” Rory replied coldly.

Before Vance could lift his thumb to press the button on the detonator, Dante’s rifle cracked from a sniper position on an overhead gantry. The bullet shattered the glass in Vance’s hand, sending amber scotch and shards flying in all directions, while a second round neatly clipped the remote from his grip, shattering it against the concrete floor below.

In a split second, the warehouse erupted into disciplined chaos. Vance’s mercenaries attempted to draw their weapons, but Rory’s elite enforcers moved with overwhelming, crushing force, disarming and subduing the opposition in less than sixty seconds without a single shot fired into vital organs.

Rory climbed the metal stairs two at a time, his boots clanging loudly against the grating. He reached the catwalk, grabbed Viktor Vance by the lapels of his expensive Italian suit, and slammed him hard against the reinforced steel railing, dangling him twenty feet above the concrete floor.

“Please, Rory! Let’s talk terms! Fifty percent of the shipping routes! All of Europe!” Vance choked out, his face turning pale with mortal terror, his fingers clawing uselessly at Rory’s wrists.

“You’re going to sign a full confession, hand over every asset to my legal team, and spend the rest of your natural life in a maximum-security federal penitentiary where no one will ever hear you scream,” Rory whispered into Vance’s ear, his voice like grinding ice. “And if you ever, even in your dreams, think of my daughters again... I won't use a bullet next time.”
