Chapter 10 - The Forever After

Ten years later, the Starks estate was no longer a place of shadows, armed guards, and whispered secrets. It was a home filled with music, sunlight, bright laughter, and the bustling energy of a large, deeply bonded family.

The ocean breeze still swept in from the Hamptons shoreline, but it no longer sounded like a warning. Instead, it carried the sound of teenage laughter, the patter of younger footsteps, and the sweet, melodic notes of a piano drifting out from the grand drawing-room windows.

In the center of the sprawling back lawn, a vibrant garden of white roses and lavender bloomed under the golden afternoon sun.

Veronica Starks—now elegantly refined, her dark hair touched with subtle grace, her eyes still sparkling with the same fierce intelligence and boundless warmth—sat on a wrought-iron bench with a leather-bound journal in her lap.

Running across the lawn toward her were two teenage girls with bright, confident smiles—Lily and Rose, now sixteen, tall, brilliant, and fiercely protective of their younger brother, a four-year-old boy named Leo who was currently chasing the golden retriever puppy across the grass.

“Mom! Mom, Dad’s calling everyone inside! Dinner is ready, and you promised you’d help judge the science fair project before everyone arrives!” Rose called out, laughing as she collapsed onto the bench beside Veronica, throwing an affectionate arm around her shoulders.

“Your father is far too impatient,” Veronica smiled, closing her journal and placing it gently on the table. “He thinks because he runs a global logistics corporation now, he can schedule family dinners like cargo shipments.”

“Well, you trained him well, Mom,” Lily grinned, sitting down on the other side. “Even Uncle Dante says no one dares argue with Dad except you.”

As if summoned by the conversation, the French doors leading from the terrace opened, and Rory stepped out onto the stone patio. He was fifty now, his dark hair threaded with distinguished silver at the temples, wearing a comfortable cashmere sweater and slacks. The hard, ruthless edge of the legendary mafia boss had long since faded into the warm, proud demeanor of a devoted patriarch and a successful, legitimate global industrialist.

He crossed the lawn toward them, his hands tucked casually into his pockets, his dark eyes shining with profound love as he looked at his wife and daughters.

“I heard that,” Rory said with a rich, teasing laugh, stopping beside the bench and looking down at Veronica. “And for the record, international logistics are far easier to manage than getting three Starks women to agree on a dinner menu.”

Veronica stood up, walking right into his open arms. Rory wrapped his strong, comforting arms around her waist, pulling her close against his chest as he pressed a gentle, lingering kiss to the top of her head.

“Is that so, Mr. Starks?” Veronica murmured against his shoulder, a playful smile playing on her lips.

“Absolutely,” Rory whispered, his voice softening as he looked past her at their children laughing on the lawn, and then down into the eyes of the woman who had saved his entire world a decade ago.

He reached out, taking her hand and intertwining his fingers with hers, the heavy platinum wedding ring catching the golden afternoon sunlight.

The house behind them stood tall, proud, and bathed in brilliant light—no longer a fortress hiding monsters in the dark, but a true sanctuary of love, peace, and an everlasting, happily-ever-after.
