Chapter 7 - The Boardroom Showdown

Wednesday morning arrived with an icy autumn rain lashing against the tinted glass windows of the fifty-fifth-floor boardroom. The atmosphere inside was tense, heavy with anticipation. The board members sat around the polished mahogany table in expensive suits, whispering amongst themselves.

Viktor Vance sat at the head of the table—the seat traditionally reserved for Rodrigo—wearing a triumphant, predatory smirk. He tapped his gold watch impatiently.

“Well, gentlemen,” Viktor announced smugly, standing up to address the room. “It appears Mr. Alarcón has chosen to abandon his duties permanently, likely hiding out in some delusional pursuit. As acting chairman, I call this emergency vote to formally depose Rodrigo Alarcón and restructure Alarcón Enterprises under new leadership.”

Murmurs of agreement rippled through the compromised board members. Pens were raised. The hostile takeover was moments away from completion.

Suddenly, the heavy oak double doors of the boardroom swung open with a resounding bang.

Silence fell over the room instantly.

Rodrigo Alarcón walked in. He wasn't dressed in frantic disarray; he wore a sharp, impeccably tailored charcoal suit, his posture straight, his eyes burning with absolute, unshakeable confidence. Behind him walked Elena, carrying a thick leather briefcase.

Viktor’s triumphant smile faltered for a fraction of a second before he recovered his arrogant sneer.

“Well, look who finally decided to crawl out of the woods,” Viktor mocked, chuckling nervously. “Did you bring your herbal medicine man to plead your case to the board, Rodrigo? You’re too late. The vote is happening right now.”

Rodrigo didn't raise his voice. He walked calmly to the head of the table, looked Viktor dead in the eye, and simply pulled out the chair Viktor was sitting in.

“Sit down, Viktor,” Rodrigo commanded quietly, his voice carrying such raw authority that Viktor instinctively stepped back and sat down.

Rodrigo opened the leather briefcase, pulled out a stack of authenticated financial documents, and tossed them across the mahogany table toward the nervous board members.

“Before you vote on anything,” Rodrigo said coldly, scanning the room, “I suggest you all turn to page four of the financial audit Elena just handed out. Pay special attention to the wire transfers originating from the restricted Southeast Asian environmental funds into Viktor Vance’s personal Cayman Island shell company.”

The color instantly drained from Viktor’s face. He lunged forward to grab the papers, but board member Arthur Sterling—an influential veteran investor—pushed them away, flipping through the pages with wide, horrified eyes.

“Good lord…” Arthur whispered, looking up at Viktor. “Vance, you embezzled capital from a protected international account to fund this hostile takeover? That’s not just a corporate violation—that’s a federal penitentiary offense.”

The entire boardroom erupted into chaotic shouting. The compromised directors realized they had hitched their wagons to a sinking, criminal ship.
