Chapter 5 - The Turning Tide

Monday morning arrived with a brilliant explosion of sunlight across the snow-capped peaks. The storm had passed, leaving the forest sparkling and pristine. Inside the cabin, Camila sat up completely unassisted, her cheeks flushed with natural health, enthusiastically painting a picture of a bird with watercolors Claudia had fetched from the village.

Dr. Mateo examined her thoroughly, checking her pulse, listening to her chest, and studying her tongue. A rare, proud smile finally broke across his weathered face.

“The disease has retreated,” Dr. Mateo announced, his voice echoing with relief. “Her body has regenerated its core strength. The three-month death sentence is broken. She is going to live a long, healthy life.”

Claudia burst into tears of pure joy, dropping to her knees to hug Camila gently. Rodrigo stood frozen in the doorway, his chest tightening with an emotion so overwhelming he couldn't even speak. He walked over, knelt beside his daughter, and buried his face in her small hands, weeping openly for the first time in his adult life.

“Thank you… thank you, Doctor,” Rodrigo choked out, his voice thick with gratitude.

“Don't thank me,” Dr. Mateo replied, packing his instruments into a leather pouch. “Thank your housekeeper for having the courage to challenge your arrogance, and thank this little girl for fighting with everything she had.”

With Camila officially healed, it was time to return to the city. But Rodrigo was no longer the man who had fled the metropolis in panic. He had undergone a profound transformation. He understood that wealth was just a tool, not a substitute for love, family, and presence.

As they descended the mountain path back toward the waiting car, Camila held her father’s hand tightly, chattering happily about the birds she had seen. Rodrigo smiled down at her, feeling lighter than he had ever felt in his entire life.

However, back in the city, Viktor Vance was preparing his final, most devastating blow against Alarcón Enterprises, unaware that the man he was trying to destroy had returned from the mountains completely reborn, possessing a clarity and resolve that money could never buy.
